Ceramics

Prerequisite: Art & Design     Grades: 9-12     Credit: 0.5

    This course applies the elements and principles of art to the study of ceramics.  Clay based materials using various ceramic and pottery techniques are explored.  Projects include hand building, potter’s wheel techniques, and casting processes.

Students will learn about the essential handbuiling processes using pinch, coil, and slab techniques.  Students will also have the opportunity to experience wheel throwing.

  • Trivet

  • Textured Cylinders

  • Mug  & Saucer

  • Vase/ Vessel/ Luminary

  • Coiled Luminary/ Utensil Holder

  • Sgraffito & Carving Techniques

  • Mixed Media/ Weaving

 

***Projects vary from year to year, you never know what we will be 'cooking' up next!

As a note, students will alternate building new projects and glazing previous projects in order to be more efficient.  However this means that the final grade for the project may not be entered for a significant amount of time.  Please contact me any time to check up on the progress of a project.
